Garbage Collection

Council has awarded a contract to Ridge G&P Services Ltd, Otto Clowe, to collect our garbage and transport it to Robin Hood Bay, a waste management site at St. John’s. Our garbage collection day is every Tuesday. In the case of bad weather, holidays, etc., garbage will be picked up the next day.

Town of Brigus » Garbage Collection

Please Take Note: Listed below are changes to our garbage collection that you should consider.

Garbage Day

This will now be on Tuesday instead of Wednesday unless otherwise noted.

Garbage Collection

Domestic and Bulk Collection every week. No Spring or Fall Cleanup. There is an eight (8) bag

Metals

Regarding Hot Water Boilers, Stoves, Fridges, etc., please contact the Town Office (528-4588) to arrange for pickup, or you may drop them off at French’s in Bay Roberts.

Route

The route Mr. Clowe may take to pick up our garbage may differ from the route you use. Therefore, you must have a garbage container and have your garbage out the night before or early the next morning.

Bags

All garbage should be placed in proper garbage bags, not pup bags (i.e., grocery/shopping bags, etc.). If placed in proper garbage bags, they will be included. Under Occupation Health & Safety, no bag is to exceed 18.14kg (40lb). Also, bags left behind at the curb that may be torn open are the homeowner’s responsibility for clean up.

Grass/Ashes/Branches/Leaves

These are not accepted and will not be picked up. These may be dropped off at the Towns pit on Englishtown Rd. West. At no time should any items other than those approved be dropped off at this site. Name/s of those caught or reported will be turned over to the RCMP.

Building/Renovations Etc

It is the responsibility of the homeowner to arrange to have material from the building/renovations etc. disposed of. For a price on the collection, call Otto Clowe at 709-363-7185, or If you have the means to dispose of your material at Harbour Grace Waste site, you may do so on Tuesday from Noon to 4:00 pm, Thursday from noon to 4:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 or visit www.curbitstjohns.ca.

Recycling/Composting

For all those who have taken it upon themselves to recycle or compost, here is a big thank you. Recycling and composting reduce the amount of garbage going to landfills, which is good for our environment. Also, this puts money back in your pockets, or if you wish, you can make it a donation to your Library, School, etc

Car Wrecks

Please contact NLL Recycling at 709-726-1777 or email: je**@nl**********.com, and she will arrange to have your car wreck or metals picked up free of charge.

The council is concerned about people refusing to dispose of their material properly. Instead, some will dump their garbage by the side of the roads or in the woods. If you see this happening, please contact the RCMP at 709-786-2118 or the Council Office at 709-528-4588 with all the information you can provide so that these people can be charged. Fines for this can range from $2,000.00, imprisonment, or both.

For further information, please contact the Council Office at 709-528-4588.
